We are supposed to reach out, like Jesus did, to those less fortunate than us, and we are supposed to welcome them and meet their needs. If you don’t have a bunch of stinky people dressed in rags at your church, U R doing it wrong.

Where in the Gospels does Jesus cover this subject? (I guess it can be found in James Dobson’s custom Bible along with Jesus’s thoughts on abortion and homosexuality.) At my church, praise God, we have a lot of homeless people. The author objects to young people who don’t comb their hair, people who wear jeans to church, and so forth. There was a lot of stuff in this essay about personal appearance. I’ve never experienced anything like this, but I would probably agree. The author also objects to a kareoke-like arrangement where an individual sings along with a pop song during church. But proposing that ALL Christians should be limited to the Psalms and, I guess, instruments common to Biblical times (the zither? I don’t even know) is dumb. He can even go to Seacoast and attend services in the chapel, although I believe they use songs written after 33 AD. There are churches like that, and he can go to them. The author also objects to modern instruments. The idea that we should only sing the Psalms is ridiculous. So a Christian musician is driven to make music that praises God. If you are a musician, you HAVE to make music. I am very grateful that God gave this gift to people like David Crowder, who make music that is so relevant to my experience as a Christian in 2008. As a musician, I can tell you that making music is a gift from God. The Bible tells us to make a joyful noise, and it tells us that God loves to hear the praises of His people. Now, I love the Psalms, especially lately, because I really feel David these days. At that point I totally flashed on the scenes from Inherit the Windwhere all the protesters are singing “Old Time Religion” outside the courthouse. We have songs that have been perfectly OK for 2000 years, so we should just use those. One of the points the author made was that modern church music is bad. I don’t know who wrote it because JTR never attributes the stuff he spams out to his whole email list. That’s OK because I am sure it would have been pretty boring. So I was going to retrieve the essay and debunk it line-by-line, but yahoo had already deleted it. Much like Al Franken, debunking idiocy always cheers me up when I’m feeling blue, as long as I don’t have to swim in the sewer that is, like, Bill O’Reilly’s head. I deleted the email (while I was AT CHURCH, serving God) because it was silly, but I kept thinking about debunking it. It amazes me when people are still Republicans after everything that has happened. But he watches Fox News, so he knows how he is supposed to think about everything. Has he a mind of his own? We have no way of knowing. He only sends me stuff he knows will make me mad, and he only sends me stuff that other people have written. Jeff the Repugnacan sent me this little essay about how most churches suck because they are not, you know, whatever.
